The video presents one of the methods used in umbilical hernia repair. The method is based on placement of synthetic mesh with anti-adhesive layer intra- or extraperitoneally, thus reinforcing the posterior surface of muscles and fascia surrounding the hernia. There is still no clear recommendation, which surgical approach should be used, especially in hernias smaller than 3 cm. However, due to high recurrence rate among smokers, obese people and patients with concomitant diastasis recti it is rather recommended to use the synthetic meshes.
