Emergency Departments provide the “front line” of health care in this country, and serve an extraordinary public safety function. However, health care delivery in the country is changing rapidly, and emergency care is no exception. As a result of course participant evaluations and other annual assessment surveys, the need for cutting edge information about emergency medicine has been identified. The course is designed to change physician performance in areas identified in the needs assessments, including:

• Difficult intubations
• Implantable cardiac devices
• Opioid tolerance and abuse
• EMTALA and ED crowding
• Obstetric emergencies
• Acute coronary syndrome diagnosis and therapy
• Important ED infections
• Pediatric rash, seizures, abdominal pain and head trauma
• ED ultrasound

This year’s 5-day long conference will specifically address these identified educational needs and provide practitioners with state-of- the-art tools to provide improved treatment options for their patients. This is an important opportunity for physicians involved in the delivery of emergency medicine to review important topics and discuss recent advances. This also provides an excellent chance for physicians peripherally involved in emergency care to expand their horizons. A total of 25 lectures will be given. Some will be in case review format. A question and answer session follows each group of related topics. The course faculty was selected for their comprehensive clinical experience and academic expertise
