Allergy Skin Tests - How They're Performed

In the video it is explained how allergy skin tests work and discusses their effectiveness.
Skin test are done for most of allergens. Before test the patient shouldn't be taking antihistamines at least for 7 days. Test are performed on arms, thighs or back. The skin is prepared with alcohol to remove any interfering substances like creams. Then the doctor puts a drop of liquid with different allergen and marks the area. The test stays on a skin for 15 minutes. Then if you are allergic there are red bumps in certain places and it is compared to control. Itchy (allergic) parts are then covered with cortisone cream and the future strategy is discussed with allergist.
