Case description

Dilated cardiomyopathy is the most common type of cardiomyopathy and is characterised by dilation and impaired contraction of one or both ventricles. Blood fills the ventricles during diastole.

Dilated cardiomyopathy can a primary condition as in genetics or inherited or secondary to viruses (coxsackie B virus), substances (alcohol and cocaine), coronary artery disease, arrhythmia. Coronary artery disease causing cardiomyopathy is sometimes called "ischaemic cardiomyopathy" and for valvular disease "valvular cardiomyopathy".
