Case description

IL-6 is another potent proinflammatory cytokine and mediator of the acute phase response. It is produced by immune cells in response to inflammation or infection. The IL-6 receptor is a membrane bound receptor which require co receptors gp130. Gp130 initiates intracellular cascade of events through the JAK/STAT of MAPK pathway which ultimately leads to the activation of transcription factor involved in activating genes that will promote inflammation and the effects of IL-6.
Tocilizumab is a monoclonal antibody against the IL-6 receptor used in RA; JIA; Castleman disease; GCA.
