In this video we can see the evolution of laparoscopic fundoplication in the 20th and 21st century. Beginning in early 1990's, laparoscopic fundoplication increased the role of surgery in the treatment of GERD. Since then, millions of Americans have undergone laparoscopic fundoplications. Over this time, there have been great advances in laparoscopic surgery for GERD, including the advent of Laparo-Endoscopic Single Site (LESS) surgery. Laparoscopic fundoplications provides efficacious treatment for GERD; long-term symptom resolution and patient satisfaction support its continued application. Outcomes have been proven to be satisfactory and durable. The advent of LESS surgery advances surgeon's abilities to provide safe and salutary care.
