This course is designed to change physician competence and was developed for the primary care clinician, allied health personnel, ophthalmic technicians, and school nurses involved in the day-to-daycare of children.
The examination of a child’s eye varies greatly from that of an adult. The eyes of a child are dynamic and growing. The examination must be tailored to the developmental level of the child. This live 1 day activity will provide examination techniques to increase accuracy in the pediatric eye examination. It will provide hands-on experience in the examination of the pupil, strabismus and use of the direct ophthalmoscope. Common eye problems such as amblyopia and strabismus will be addressed. In addition, an interactive panel of pediatric eye doctors will discuss common clinical scenarios with input from the audience.

As a result of course participant evaluations and community physician annual needs assessment surveys, the need for cutting edge information about pediatric ophthalmology has been identified. This conference will specifically address the identified educational needs and provide practitioners with state-of-the-art tools to provide improved treatment options for their patients. Faculty presenting and interacting with participants at this activity have been selected on the basis of their comprehensive clinical experience and academic excellence.
