Fraunhofer USA Center for Molecular Biotechnology welcomes you to the 11th New Technologies New Vaccines 2016 Conference to be held at Hotel DuPont, Wilmington, Delaware during March 20-23, 2016. Held in cooperation with the International Alliance for Biological Standardization (IABS), the series began in 2006 and was previously titled ”New Cells, New Vaccines” and explored alternative protein production strategies. The conference was re-titled to reflect the tremendous impact that new science is making on regulatory and business decision making for vaccine development.

Despite remarkable advances made in vaccine development during the 20th century, infectious diseases remain among the leading causes of death, disability and economic loss worldwide. Of special concern are three categories of emerging infectious diseases (EID): (1) newly recognized pathogens (including agents moving from animal to human hosts); (2) re-emerging pathogens (including endemic agents that unexpectedly cause new epidemics, agents that have evolved new virulence factors, and agents that have developed resistance to existing therapies); and (3) agents with bioterrorism potential. Each instance of an EID brings unique challenges and requires, above all else, rapid intervention to protect public health.

The conference aims at bringing together researchers, scientists, academicians, regulatory and industry professionals from the vaccine community to discuss the most recent topics in vaccine development. The meeting will focus on the emerging and neglected infectious diseases, and the challenges faced in vaccine development.
