Stem cells effective in struggle against the bone adhesion disorder?

The absence of bone adhesion for a long time after a fracture is a vital problem for orthopaedist because it may lead to permanent impairment of organ functions, increase in the costs of treatment and discomfort of the patient due to the “bad choice” of the doctor. It is often a indication to start new methods of treatment and employment of drugs which could accelerate healing. Until now, a lot of methods which expedite healing and differently influence the clinical status of the patients were devised. Scoliosis and ScoliScore – a revolutionary method of predicting spinal curve progression.

Despite many methods of spine evaluation and advanced classifications of it’s curvature the prognosis concerning the development of scoliosis was not fully accurate until now. The scientists under the direction of dr. Kenneth Ward have tested the way of diagnosis whether curves in children witch scoliosis may transform into severe deformity. Analysing, i.e. human DNA they claimed that they can eliminate the probability of severe curvature with 99% accuracy. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – method of treatment

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common disorder which makes moving hand difficult and causes large discomfort. Until now one of the method of treatment included cutting the skin and decompression of median nerve whose tightness caused the symptoms of disorder. Scientists, however, have formulated a method which to large extend minimizes disturbing continuity of skin and other tissues. The method described by Stephen B. Gunther from Frank R. Thought – controlled prostheses – latest report

For a long time now, projects with the object of creating an artificial limb that could be controlled by the patient’s thoughts have been known.To the well-known technologically advanced prosthesis projects belong: an international project Smart Hand, prosthesis of a British Touch Bionics, an Otto Bock company’s and dr. Todd A. Kuikenen’s from Chicago due to which the patient is able to feel the touch. Worth mentioning is also a Japanese model in which innovative control system was employed. Non operative treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture

There seems to have appeared an alternative to surgery for patients suffering from Dupuytren’s contracture. Pharmaceutical company, Auxilium Pharmaceuticals Inc. produces Xiaflex, which will be known in Europe as Xiapex. The medicine has been proven effective in a broad range of patients (1). Treatment with Xiaflex significantly reduced the angle of contracture in both metacarpophalangeal (MP) and proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints, with clinically meaningful responses in both less severe and more severe contractures (2). Almost a year ago the medicine was approved by Food & Drug Administration as the only pharmacological method of treating Dupuytren’s contracture. Read full text »
