MRI – modern method for imaging in cardiology

A new invention will allow for very efficient imaging of the myocardial movements with the use of MRI (magneticresonanceimaging – magnetic resonance imaging). Obtained image is the result of a very strong magnetic field (about 150 thousand times greater than the Earth’s field).

Magnetic resonance (MR-magneticresonance) is a non-invasive way of obtaining images from inside the body. The method is widely used in medicine as one of the basic diagnostic techniques – CT. MR imaging mechanism is based on the phenomenon of nuclear magnetic resonance and the polarity of the sample. Such imaging does not require the use of harmful X-rays and contrast.

Modern invention of German scientists is a revolution in modern cardiology. With the above-described mechanism and ultra-high magnetic field (7.0 Tesla scale) a very detailed picture of the blood flow through the heart muscle can be successfully obtained. It’s discovery and implementation could allow for a thorough scan of the heart and detection of its dysfunctions, which may affect a quicker diagnosis and result in more effective treatment. Researchers certify that the developed procedure is resistant to internal and external interference in the form of noise and artifacts that may result from the constant motion of the heart and diagnostician’s mistakes.

It is worth mentioning that so far available magnetic diagnostics of heart and blood was fraught with high error rate, high price, and restricted access. Magnetic resonance of the heart according to older technology required regular heart rate because its fast beating implies more image noise.
