Neurosurgery in Translation 2021
Venue: CCH – CONGRESS CENTER HAMBURG, Messeplatz 1, Hamburg, DE

Dear colleagues & dear friends,
Two years of exceptional strain on society will have passed by once we shall meet in Hamburg for our EANS 2021 Congress.
The whole landscape – social, political, medical – will have changed since we met last time in Dublin 2019. Clinical and academic neurosurgery and neurosciences have been impacted as well, with continuing reduction in surgical activity, limited access to laboratories, and big changes in pregraduate and postgraduate teaching. The relaunch of the whole system will be more difficult than the immediate, sometimes stuttering, arrest.
That’s why it is with great emphasis and pleasant anticipation I am inviting you all to our EANS Congress 2021 in Hamburg, from October 3-7, 2021. The Leitthema, or, Landmark Theme, will be Neurosurgery in Translation.
That landmark theme reflects the strong scientific background of the local organizer, Manfred Westphal, as well as the inspiration to cultivate the interplay between basic sciences and clinical application. Hamburg itself, as a known city of open spirit, and with a strong backbone in medical engineering and biosciences stands for that, as does the German Society of Neurosurgery (DGNC) as the national host organization, which is continuously igniting neurosurgical research and development.
Francesco Sala, the EANS Scientific Liaison office holder is working intensely with Manfred Westphal already to ramp up a scientific programme, which will represent nothing but the finest in contemporary clinical and academic neurosurgical research. Our natural partner societies, Eurospine, AANS, FLANC, EAN, and the global neurosurgical initiative will be allotted joint presentation space, together with our respective European opinion leaders.
As said above: The overall landscape has changed, and we might be far from what we had conceived our previous normality. That’s why EANS is preparing EANS 2021 Hamburg in a hybrid way: There will be ample space for plenary lectures and expert round tables in the brand new and beautiful Hamburg Congress Center to accommodate as many of us who will travel there in person. At the same time, we are preparing online participation, following the successful eEANS2020 event in addition. Everyone shall find himself and his/her space in that programme and its organization.
The whole EANS World, its office holders, and its office, and the local organizers are looking forward to welcome you in Hamburg in October!
See you soon!
