Case description

In the video you can see a robotic removal of the stone from the ureter performed by dr. Benjamin R. Lee from Tulane University School Of Medicine. Laparoscopic or robotic ureteral stone removal is reserved for impacted stones. Stones that can not be passed and those that have caused much local trauma that can not be safely treated by other modalities. The indications for robotic ureteral stone removal include stones which either cannot be accessed ureteroscopically or cannot be fragmented. The main advantage of this procedure for large upper ureteric stones is the high stone-free rate after one procedure, thereby allowing the patient an early return to regular activities. The disadvantages include a longer hospital stay and the risk of injury to intra-abdominal structures inherent in the laparoscopic approach.
