New option of HIV prevention?

Condom ceases to be the only common method of HIV prevention. As far as ‘dream’ about anti-HIV vaccination is out of range of modern medicine, scientists are looking for new kinds of pre-exposure prophylaxis. A new development of this group is intravaginal ring containing experimental drug – Dapivirine, which is supposed to prevent viral infection. Is AOIS the new AIDS?

Recently the world has held breath as the new dangerous disease was discovered. The Adult-Onset Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AOIS) resembles Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) not only in its name, but more importantly in its clinical course. Patients, who were born almost exclusively in Thailand or Taiwan present with symptoms of multiple opportunistic infections. Authors of the study (1) on AOIS, published in the August issue of prestigious New England Journal Of Medicine, claim there is no evidence on the viral etiology of the disease. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome – unluckily we still don’t have the culprit

Nowadays, especially in industrial countries it is more common to hear about psychiatric disorders. There are more and more described neuro-psychatric diseases. An interesting disease is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), first described in 1956 in England, and in the year 1988 it was recognized as individual syndrome by Center for Disease Control (CDC).
