Intranasal insulin causes improvement in Alzheimer’s patients

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) proves to be a both diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. The disease strikes unannounced and with progression severely debilitates. Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment (aMCI) often seems to precede it. Among some risk factors of developing AD, recently insulin resistance is the one intensely discussed. The current issue of Archives of Neurology journal (1) reports that intranasal administration of insulin may provide AD and aMCI patients with undeniable benefits. The 4-month therapy improved or stabilized memory, cognition and overall functional ability. Authors suggest that their pilot trial serves as a fair basis for future research. Read full text »

Results of cardiopulmonary exercise test in woman and man with chronic heart failure compared with the cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and echocardiography

It is estimated that in Poland chronic heart failure (CHF) affects even 1 million people. Morbidity increases with age, so that it is diagnosed in 10-20% of patients older than 80 years old. [2] CHF is currently the only disease affecting the cardiovascular system of which both the morbidity and prevalence are constantly increasing. That fact is associated with the change of developing societies’ structure, as well as with the increasing effectiveness of acute coronary syndrome and hypertension therapy. Innovative modular dental implant endoscope that has lately been introduced in Israel appears to be a great breakthrough in its field. Microendoscope has already been useful in maxillofacial surgery and dentistry, but never before had it been used in routine dental implant procedures.
