Case description

Intra-operative video showing the laparotomy and sternotomy. 53-year-old male underwent operation due to clear cell carcinoma of the right kidney with the cancerous thrombus in the right atrium. The right kidney was surgically removed during laparotomy, then the median sternotomy was performed. The Bio-pump was used for extracorporeal circulation what was necessary for the open heart surgery. The carcenous thrombus was removed. 53-year-old patient: - Preoperative symptoms: hematuria, increased waist circumference, increased fatigability, dyspnoe since August 2008 - The CT of abdomen was performed in The Urology Clinic and the tumor of right kidney was diagnosed. It was 18 cm in diameter and there was a thrombus penetrating into the inferior vena cava. Non-operative case was diagnosed. - The patient was admitted to The Urology Clinic again on January 2009 due to recurrent hematuria. Right renal artery embolization was performed. - The patient was consulted in Institute of Oncology in Cracow on November 2009. The man was classified for radical surgical treatment. - The operation was performed by urologists and cardiac surgeons on December 4, 2009 in Institute of Cardiology of Jagiellonian University Medical College. - There were no recurrence or dissemination symptomson on CT scans on March 2010, the patient is constantly supervised by medical specialists.
The surgery was performed by prof. Andrzej Stelmach (Collegium Medicum in Cracow, Poland).
