Material type: Patient
In this video we can see the horizontal mucosal folds (Passavant's ridge) on posterior pharyngeal wall upon initiation of velopharyngea closure. It takes place during the act of swallowing which is followed by contractions of the underlying superior constrictors and soft palate muscles to complete its closure. It is preventing a regurgitation of fluid and food particles into the nasopharynx. Also upon saying the word "eeeeeee" the similar ridge is seen.
