Case description

In this video we can see the anatomy of the middle meatus area with the primary focus on the uncinate process. The critical surface landmark during endoscopic sinus surgery is provided by this sickle-shaped osseomembranous structure. Due to the fact that the natural sinus ostium of the maxillary sinus is situated high-up behind it, there is a need to remove it as an initial step in this surgery. Its attachment can be situated superiorly to the base of skull and CT-scan
is usually requireded for proper evaluation in addition to the assessment of the sinusitis itself. [MT- the middle meatus, LW- the lateral nasal wall within the middle meatus, stars- the uncinate process]
