Case description

One of the most common causes of difficulty in swallowing with significant pain is fishbone impaction. Foreign body in the oropharynx or hypopharynx can be revealed by clinical examination if only it had not passed and impacted beyond opening of the esophagus. An anchored (at the left lingual tonsil area) fishbone is presented. It was initially hidden by the epiglottis during endoscopic examination. However, fiberoptic laryngoscopy had visualized it and thereafter successful removal was performed by using mini forceps passed through the side channel of the fiberoptic scope. The removal was done as an office procedure after anaestesia of the throat with lignocaine 10 percent spray. No complication occured during its removal.
