Case description

This particular case shows the bilateral vocal fold palsy - it is seen through the tracheostoma after the tracheostomy tube removal (to perform subglotiscopy). In this case, the examination was done by use of 70 degrees rigid endoscope with some adjustment suring this insertion. To deliver the proper illumination, 90 degrees scope cannot be used (although, it gives upright view directly). The glottic aperture (rima glottidis) seemed to be very narrow and no abduction was noticed (augmentation can be done by asking the patient to breathe in deeply/ perform brisk sniffings). The advantage of this method is the fact that it is tolerable to most patient and topical anaesthesia spray are rarely needed . A recently tracheotomized patient (the tracheostomy tract has not well formed) shouldn't be examined by this technique.
