Case description

Accutane is a drug used to treat acne. Accutane affects the development of bone particularly the growth plate where the bone metabolism is most active. Accutane affects the normal actions of Vitamin D and A to cause abnormal mineralization of growth plate. Accutane causes the growth plate to mineralize prematurely and incompletely leading to premature closure of growth plate. This effect on growth plate closure, causes a weakening of the bone end plate.
