Case description

This video shows ischemic cardiomiopathy which is the most common type of dilated cardiomyopathy. The heart's ability to pump blood is decreased because the heart's main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, is enlarged, dilated and weak. This is caused by ischemia - a lack of blood supply to the heart muscle caused by coronary artery disease and heart attacks. Symptoms of IC include shortness of breath, chest pain, and extreme fatigue. CM is diagnosed based on the medical history (symptoms and family medical history), physical exam, and other tests. Specific tests may include blood tests, electrocardiogram (ECG), chest X-ray, echocardiogram, exercise stress test, cardiac catheterization, CT scan, MRI scan, and radionuclide studies.
